Oil Producing Algae Thirteen years ago, White Meadow Lake in Rockaway Township was a mess of weeds and algae, and Charles Bogusat was one of several homeowners irate about its condition.

Algae Oil Production Even as of a few years ago, people could not swim in the lake because it looked like "pea green soup," said Ray Lomax, general manager of the lake.
Lubricity additives will not be added at the refinery to replace the reduced sulfur content. Some diesel fuel additives do contain lubricity additives. Advance Auto Parts carries Power Service brand diesel additives that contain a proprietary lubricity additive called "Slickdiesel", for maximum fuel lubrication. 5. Customer notices their diesel engine has lost power since the introduction of ULSD. Is this a result of the new fuels
Algae Bio Fuel Today, the man-made lake is in great shape.
Yes, ULSD fuels have a lower BTU value and thus when burned in a diesel engine will result in less power. Cetane enhanced products can offset this power loss. Cetane is a high energy compound that makes the fuel burn more completely in the combustion chamber, resulting in more power, reduced emissions, and improved fuel economy. Power Service diesel additives contain "+ Cetane Boost" to offset this power loss while also improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.
Algae Fuel Cell "We literally have 8 feet of water clarity," said Bogusat, now president of the White Meadow Lake Property Owners Association.
Fuel for Life Diesel Fuel for Life Him is Fresh, addictive and truly unique. With crisp vibrations of star anise and grapefruit, flashes of raspberry and lavender, and seductive waves of heliotrope and vetiver woods, Diesel "Fuel For Life" must be used with caution.
Algae Based Fuels During the 1950s, White Meadow Lake provided a pretty vista for the community of summer bungalows that sprung up around it. But in the late 1970s, the lake's water quality started to decline. The water was frequently clouded by blue-green algae blooms.
Not all diesel performance products are the same. Diesel performance "chips" over fuel your engine to produce more power. This produces more fuel than your engine is designed to burn, thus the surplus fuel burns in your exhaust manifold and turbo. Undesirable heat is generated that increases friction, wears on the cylinder walls and rings and could lead to total meltdown.
Diesel From Algae The association tried to use chemicals to kill algae and weeds, but the problem persisted. The dead batches would just sink to the bottom of the lake and feed new algae growth.
Green Fuel Algae The group hired a consultant, Steve Souza, to assess the lake's problems. Souza is a former president of the North American Lake Management Society.
Algae Fuel Production Through public education campaigns, they convinced the 2,450-home community that spending the nearly $200,000 needed for the project, which would come primarily from the association dues, was worth it.
Bio Diesel From Algae It was not an easy sale, because results were not evident overnight. Call it the holistic approach to healing a lake -- you don't just treat the symptoms, you treat the cause.
Biodiesel Fuel From Algae Part of the reason for the algae growth, the group discovered, was that phosphates from septic systems in homes around the lake were leaking into the lake and spurring algae growth. While septic tanks worked for limited summertime use, year-round homes overwhelmed the systems.
Algae Into Fuel Once the area was hooked up to sewer lines, the group looked to other solutions. They turned to a system developed by Princeton Hydro, Souza's lake management technology company. The system, which is run out of a boathouse adjacent to the lake, releases a fine mist of a chemical compound through hoses lying on the bottom of the lake. The chemical binds with phosphate in the water, preventing new algae blooms.
Algae Fuel Source The system had been used before, in a man-made lake in Central Park, Souza said. It has also been used in Lake Mohawk in Sparta in Sussex County.
Algae Gas There were other efforts as well. "There's not just one magic cure for lake management," Bogusat said.
Fuel From Algae "I would say that several of our people became experts ... they read books, they took books out of the library, they became very knowledgeable," said Stuart Kipilman, a vice president of the property owners association and longtime lake volunteer. "They made things happen."
Algae Diesel Early on, Bogusat said, the lake association swim team bought phosphate-free fertilizers to sell to neighbors. They started a dredging project to remove the muck that had built up in the lake. The Boy Scouts stenciled storm drains with fish symbols, "to make people aware that everything that goes down the storm drain goes into the lake."
Bacteria Fuel For their efforts, the association won an award for volunteer efforts from the North American Lake Management Society.
Algae In Diesel The property owners association deserves credit for committing to the long haul, Souza said. Most people are looking for a "quick fix," he said, but that usually does not work.
Extract Oil From Algae "You've got to get the lake back into a sense of balance," he said.
