Little Petroleum Spills' Big Effects

Oil Producing Algae Twenty-nine million gallons of petroleum escape into North American ocean waters each year because of human activities or carelessness, yet only a tiny fraction of that environmentally devastating pollution is due to pipeline ruptures or massive oil tanker spills, an expert panel reported yesterday.

ScottishPower has warned UK householders to expect a big rise in fuel bills, although the company is not yet clear when the rises will come into effect.

Algae Oil Production Instead, nearly 85 percent of those gasoline and oil spills involve land-based runoff from cars and trucks, fuel dumping by commercial airplane pilots, and emissions from small boats and personal watercraft, such as Jet Skis, according to a study by the National Academies' National Research Council.

Yes, ULSD fuels have a lower BTU value and thus when burned in a diesel engine will result in less power. Cetane enhanced products can offset this power loss. Cetane is a high energy compound that makes the fuel burn more completely in the combustion chamber, resulting in more power, reduced emissions, and improved fuel economy. Power Service diesel additives contain "+ Cetane Boost" to offset this power loss while also improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.

Algae Bio Fuel Because most petroleum consumption occurs on land, the study notes, rivers, wastewater and storm water streams have become lethal conduits for the worst of the petroleum-related pollution of the marine environment caused by man. Environmentalists have long complained that noise and pollution from two-stroke engines in small craft and personal watercraft are harming fish species and wildlife.

Do you need a new fuel tank A replacement or maybe an auxiliary Don° fret, here at Parts Train we provide you with only the best. We have in stock a wide variety of fuel tanks that could serve you best. Not only that we also have fuel transfer tank, diesel fuel tank, auxiliary fuel tank, fuel oil tank, aluminum fuel tank, replacement fuel tank, truck fuel tank, custom fuel tank, fuel tank repair kit, inverted fuel tank, fuel tank gauges, fuel tank accessories, exterior fuel tank sealer and a whole lot more.

Algae Fuel Cell By comparison, pipeline and oil tanker mishaps reminiscent of the decade-old Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska's Prince William Sound are the source of 2.7 million gallons in North American waters, or 8 percent of the man-made petroleum pollution. Oil exploration and extraction are responsible for 3 percent of the petroleum that enters the sea.

Lubricity additives will not be added at the refinery to replace the reduced sulfur content. Some diesel fuel additives do contain lubricity additives. Advance Auto Parts carries Power Service brand diesel additives that contain a proprietary lubricity additive called "Slickdiesel", for maximum fuel lubrication. 5. Customer notices their diesel engine has lost power since the introduction of ULSD. Is this a result of the new fuels

Algae Based Fuels Natural seepage of crude oil from geologic formations below the seafloor dwarfs that of human-related pollution. It is estimated to exceed 47 million gallons a year in North America and 180 million gallons a year worldwide.

Diesel From Algae "Oil spills can have long-lasting and devastating effects on the ocean environment, but we need to know more about damage caused by petroleum from land-based sources and small watercraft since they represent most of the oil leaked by human activities," said James M. Coleman, a Louisiana State University professor of coastal studies and chairman of the committee that prepared the report.

Green Fuel Algae Despite the findings, Coleman said, industry and government leaders must remain vigilant to the hazards from drilling and shipping. Although new safety standards and advances in technology reduced the amount of oil that spilled during extraction and transportation in the past two decades, he said, "the potential is still there for a large spill, especially in regions with lax safety controls."

Algae Fuel Production The Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef in March 1989, hemorrhaging nearly 11 million gallons of black crude oil into the pristine waters of Prince William Sound. That single incident killed hundreds of thousands of seabirds, thousands of marine mammals and untold numbers of fish and shellfish. Wind and tide carried the vast slick to the southwest, spoiling more than 1,300 miles of shoreline.

Bio Diesel From Algae Because of numerous regulations and technology advances in vessel construction, spills from tank vessels have been reduced significantly during the past 10 years, even as the tanker fleet has increased by about 900 vessels to a total of 7,270 in 1999, according to the study.

Biodiesel Fuel From Algae At the same time, however, the volume of human-related discharges from land-based activities and boating and aviation has mushroomed. Urban runoff, petroleum refinery wastewater, municipal wastewaters and non-refining industrial wastes account for most of the pollution.

Algae Into Fuel Recreational use of older two-stroke engines found in many outboard motors and personal watercraft has increased significantly during the past two decades. The Environmental Protection Agency began regulating those engines in 1990 under the Clean Air Act, leading to a reduction in their use.

Algae Fuel Source The report urged that federal officials work with state agencies to better monitor oil discharges and suggested that the EPA work to phase out two-stroke engines. Monita Fontaine of the Personal Watercraft Industry Association said the study was based on old boating data and did not reflect the impact of the introduction of "environmentally friendly" four-stroke and direct-injection engines.

Algae Gas The report's calculations are based on data from a number of government, industry and academic sources. The study shows that the environmental effects of a major oil spill are longer lasting than once thought and that even small spills can seriously damage ecosystems.
