(NYSE: CVX) reported record net income of $2.6 billion for the
first quarter 2004, compared with net income of $1.9 billion in the
year-ago period, which was a surprise to investors.
Yes, ULSD fuels have a lower BTU value and thus when burned in a diesel engine will result in less power. Cetane enhanced products can offset this power loss. Cetane is a high energy compound that makes the fuel burn more completely in the combustion chamber, resulting in more power, reduced emissions, and improved fuel economy. Power Service diesel additives contain "+ Cetane Boost" to offset this power loss while also improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.

debt and contributed more than $500 million to our employee pension
plans," O'Reilly said. "Our balance sheet continues to strengthen,
and we ended the first quarter with a debt ratio of 25 percent,
down from 32 percent just a year ago." O'Reilly also noted that the
company's cash balances at the end of this year's first quarter
were nearly $6 billion, up over $1.5 billion from the end of
2003.
Algae Fuel Production The company provided additional detail about factors
contributing to the $2 billion of earnings in the quarter for the
upstream operations. Average prices for U.S. crude oil and natural
gas liquids in the quarter rose about a dollar per barrel to more
than $30. Internationally, the average liquids price was slightly
lower at about $29. The average U.S. natural gas sales price
decreased 11 percent to $5.23 per thousand cubic feet, while
internationally the average natural gas price of $2.67 was
marginally higher than the year-ago quarter. Worldwide
oil-equivalent production, including volumes produced from oil
sands and production under an operating service agreement, declined
about 2 percent from the 2003 first quarter. Most of the decline
was associated with properties sold after last year's first
quarter.
Bio Diesel From Algae Sales and other operating revenues in the first quarter 2004
were $33 billion, up 8 percent from the 2003 period. While
worldwide production fell 2 percent to 2.46 million barrels a day,
reflecting the impact of
property sales in the past year
and declining output from older fields.
Biodiesel Fuel From Algae Some analysts noted the company is starting to realize
significant cost savings from the 2001 merger of Chevron Corp. and
Texaco Inc. Until late last year, the combined company had
repeatedly disappointed investors with charges and setbacks.
Algae Into Fuel Shares of ChevronTexaco closed Friday at $91.50, up $1.15 or
1.27%, on volume of 3,984,800 shares. The 90-day average daily
volume was reported to be 2,597,227 shares. The 52-week hi/lo was
reported to be $65.76 to $94.16 a share.
